But even though they are traditional products with recognized performance, PORCELAIN INSULATORS are not suitable for all types of environments. As we demonstrate in the technical videos below, PORCELAIN INSULATORS have performance problems in regions with a lot of pollution (such as coastal areas) and with long periods of drought throughout the year. In these dry periods, many soluble salts are deposited on the insulating porcelain. And in the first rain after this long period of drought, these salts dissolve and damage the insulating properties of the porcelain, causing shutdowns.
Composite insulators were developed in the 1990’s precisely with the aim of solving this problem, but the fiberglass cores developed at the time do not have the adequate mechanical strength for applications in support column insulator substations.
As a definitive solution for this application, TEXPI/SINOMA presents the hybrid insulator, where the core is in porcelain (instead of fiberglass) and the casing is in silicone rubber, providing the necessary mechanical characteristics for the support columns of substations and the at the same time the superior pollution performance of the hot vulcanized silicone rubber housing.
